An argument for being the dumbest person in the room

What if you let yourself be OK with being the dumbest person in the room? What if you gave yourself permission to not know everything? What if you let yourself off the hook and allowed yourself not to be better, smarter, more attractive than other people? To not be perfect all the damn time?

How much pressure would that take off of you? How much more would you accomplish simply by being OK with not being the smartest, most successful person in the room? How much more would you learn?

So many of us hold ourselves back by not going after what we want, not going after our dreams or goals because we're afraid that if we can't be the best, if we can't do something perfectly, then we shouldn't do it at all. Or if we fail then we'll look like an idiot or a loser or a complete failure. We miss out on learning opportunities because we don't want to be a dumbass.

So what if you let yourself be the dumbass?

Dumbasses are worthy too...

In fact, being the dumbest person in the room is actually a trait of many of the most successful people I know. Because they're OK with not knowing everything. They're OK with asking questions. They're OK with the understanding that there is always more to learn and that they might be wrong about something. They're comfortable with being coached and learning from others, accepting that their way might not be the best way to do things.

I urge you not to be the know-it-all. Don't be the person who only sees what they want to see. The person who listens to a podcast or reads a book and only takes from it the lessons they already know, confirming what they already know. Learn something new. See a new perspective. Walk in someone else's shoes. Make mistakes and learn from them.

I want you to know something else.

YOU are worthy just as you are. You don't have to be perfect. You don't have to be the smartest person in the room. You don't have to be the richest or most successful person you know. It's great to strive for greatness, to reach for your goals and work on personal growth. But you don't HAVE to. It won't make you any more worthy as a human being to do so.

Just by simply being alive and being human, you are worthy. You don't have to do anything or BE anything to be worthy. You can be a dumbass and be worthy. You can be the smartest person in the room and be worthy. You can be a lazy couch potato and still be worthy as a human being. Nothing can take that away from you.

The funny thing is, once people accept this concept and realize their worth and their value, they strive for more. They work harder, they put themselves out there, they grow, they follow their hearts and dreams. Because they know no matter what happens that they are still worthy.
